What Is Hydro Jetting?

What Is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting is similar to that of power washing. It is the use of high force water pressure to clean. In this case, the objects that are being cleaned are all related to plumbing. Hydro jetting is used to unclog drains and sewer lines.

Hydro jetting is normally used in a commercial setting, like a restaurant, but can be used for a family home as well. This technique is used when normal plumbing methods, such as snaking and plunging, will not work. When a drain cannot be opened by these methods, then it is time to try hydro jetting. Before replacing clogged or slow sewage lines, hydro jetting is used to break up the debris. In a family home, grease is usually the reason for clogged drains. Hydro jetting would be used in that case. The case of sewer lines, they are usually penetrated by tree roots which cause blockages. Hydro jetting can take care of that too.

Almost all plumbing systems are designed to allow cleaning. They have an access point in which plumbers use to clean the systems if and when necessary. It is through this opening that hydro jetting is performed. A nozzle is placed inside the plumbing and pressurized water, anywhere from 1,500 to 4,000 PSI, is sprayed through the plumbing lines. The nozzle is placed so the water has to run up the hill and the debris runs down and out. This way the lines will not reclog and stay clean.

In the long run, this procedure will save money. In the family home, hydro jetting could save the home owner from having to replace drainage pipes. This can also save from having sewage lines dug up and repaired. It is important to remember that this procedure needs to be done by a professional plumber.
